Kendal Town 0-3 Prescot Cables: Match Report

Prescot Cables returned from their second trip to Cumbria in five days having recorded their fifth successive victory in all competitions with a win at Kendal Town.

However, the match got off to a slow start from Cables’ perspective and after just two minutes the Mintcakes had a shot on target, although Ben Barnes made a comfortable save.

The Pesky Bulls first sight of goal came in the 18 minute, although Jordan Southworth’s shot went over the bar and out for a goal kick.

In the 27th minute, Jordan Southworth hit an outstanding corner, which found the foot of Chris Almond who took a touch then fired the ball into the net to give Cables the lead.

Moments later, Prescot were 2-0 ahead when they caught the home defence out and Jordan Wynne played the ball across the box to Chris Almond who sent it into the back of the net.

Just before half time, Jordan Southworth had a shot but it was saved and pushed wide for a corner.

In the 64th minute Almond, smashed the ball into the top corner but the ‘goal’ was disallowed for a foul on a Kendal player.

Shortly after that, Morgan Homson-Smith hit a great free kick, which went just goes wide for a goal kick.

In the 73rd minute, a superb passing move from Cables set up Almond. The experienced forward hit an excellent shot over the home goalkeeper, but his effort was cleared off the line by Gavin Clark.

A mistake from the home stopper allowed Cables to play a through ball to Chris Almond who hit a good effort but the ‘keeper redeemed himself by making a great save.

Substitute Reece Fishwick made an immediate impact into the game and had a shot at goal but it was saved comfortably by the Kendal ‘keeper.

In the 89th minute, a penalty was given to Cables for a handball in the area by Sam Staunton-Turner. Chris Almond hit a fantastic penalty, chipping the ball straight down the middle to complete both his hat-trick and the scoring.
