Instead, it will be Runcorn Linnets who will face Brian Richardson and co after victory over Cables at the IP Truck Parts Stadium on Tuesday night.
Paul Shanley put the visitors ahead on 19 minutes when he beat the offside trap and fired low beneath Ollie Taylor.
Linnets were then reduced to ten men when Tom Owens was given a straight red for a dangerous tackle on James Edgar. However, despite being down to ten men, Linnets went into half time well deserving of their 1-0 lead.
The second half saw Cables try and get themselves back into the tie and assert themselves on the opposition.
With both full-backs, Reece McNally and Valter Fernandes pushed further forward, Cables were defensively exposed just after the hour when Shanley’s pass found fellow Linnets forward Ryan Gibson who duly doubled their lead.
Cables were awarded a penalty on 67 minutes which James Edgar dispatched to make it 1-2 and set up a tense last quarter of the match. Cables laid siege upon the Linnets goal but were unable to make the all-important breakthrough.
