There is no time for Prescot Cables to dwell on Saturday’s defeat at home to Workington, as they return to action this evening for a BetVictor Northern Premier League North / West Division match at Pontefract Collieries.
Pontefract Collieries are enjoying a remarkable period of sustained success; since being relegated from the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League in 2016, the club has been promoted as Division One runners-up, then won the Premier Division to earn a place in the Northern Premier League. The Colls then finished second in last season’s East Division before losing in the Play-Off Final.
Tonight’s fixture is the first-ever League meeting between the Colls and the Cables but Prescot were Pontefract’s first opponents in the FA Cup. That game – back in 1994 – saw Prescot return to their side of the Pennines with a 2-0 win.
The Form Guide
Pontefract have won four of their last six League matches, including victory at Clitheroe on Saturday. However, their push for a third promotion in four seasons may yet be derailed by fixture congestion. Tonight’s game will be only the eighth League fixture Collieries have played at home this season and they have a daunting eighteen games to play between tonight and April.
Cables do not go into the fixture in especially good form, but will have taken heart from their performance against Workington on Saturday. Although ultimately beaten, Prescot were the better side for long periods of the game and were unfortunate not to get something from it.
The match takes place at the Football Family Stadium, Beechnut Lane, Pontefract, WF8 4QA, with a 7:45pm kick-off.
Unfortunately, there is not a Supporters Club coach running for this match.
Admission on the turnstiles is just £8.00 for adults and £5.00 for concessions.
