A hectic first 20 minutes was the highlight of Prescot Cables’ fourth pre-season match, a short trip to Bootle.
Craig Davies’ men were ahead after just six minutes through a goal from Michael Monaghan, who has recently put pen to paper on a contract with the Pesky Bulls for the coming season.
The Cables lead was doubled just five minutes later via a first goal in amber and black for a trialist known as ‘Macca’ to make it two nil.
In the 15th minute, Bootle were awarded a penalty, which was converted with a shot to the ‘keeper’s right.
Just two minutes later Bootle concluded the early goal fest with a second of their own to level affairs at two apiece, which is how it remained going into half time.
In typical pre-season fashion, both teams made a couple of changes ahead of the start of the second half, which was an end-to-end affair.
However, it was Bootle broke the deadlock in the 70th minute to take a 3-2 lead.
In the dying seconds of the game, Cables appeared to have the ball over the line in a late goalmouth scramble but the visitors’ protests that they had scored were waved away by the referee.
