Prescot Cables 1-2 Newcastle Town: Match Report

Cables’ mixed pre-season form continued on Saturday as they went down 2-1 at home to Newcastle Town.

In a game that was feisty and competitive throughout, Cables were two goals down at the break thanks to a goal from Ryan Maclean on 7 minutes and then a brilliant solo effort from Nathan Morley on 38 minutes.

Both sides were reduced to ten men midway through the second half when MJ Monaghan for Cables and the Newcastle left back were both dismissed after an altercation.

Cables created very few chances throughout the match but did manage to pull a goal back on 80 minutes. Ethan Van Aston’s left footed cross was met in the air by Lloyd Dean who promptly headed home to halve the deficit. That was as good as it got for the Pesky Bulls, although Dean did nearly score a second moments later; his shot was fired narrowly over.
