A Tribute To Kathy Conway

Kathy, a much loved volunteer and supporter of Prescot cables passed on 20/11/2020

Kathy loved Prescot Cables. Her love of football started when she was a child, brought up in Deysbrook Lane, Liverpool, practically over the road form LFC’s training ground. With her best friend Jill they worked behind the bar in the players’ lounge at Anfield, mixing with the stars at the time , Keegan, Johnston, Lee etc and supporting LFC in their glory days. When she married, she started supporting Cables due to her husband Geoff’s Grandad being involved in the management.

Kathy had a successful career as a nurse having been a sister for many years in the A&E at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. Eventually Kathy became an MSc Advanced Nurse Practitioner  and Deputy Manager of a Hospital, before she was forced to retire through ill health, being diagnosed with MS. Kathy always had the community spirit helping to organise street parties, Home-watch co-ordinator, Prescot Mission Christmas and Eaton Street Park member.

When there was a need for someone to pick up the baton for the Cables merchandise shop Kathy volunteered. At times she sold shirts, filled out lottery tickets, sold coach tickets, took orders for clothing, handed out team sheets and was generally the friendly face people saw when they entered the bar. One of the best nights Kathy enjoyed was seeing Cables win the Senior Cup at Marine. Unfortunately during 2020 Kathy’s health deteriorated over the year and in November she caught Covid and on top of her MS it proved too much. The love and kind messages and support from Cables fans has been a huge support to Kath’s husband Geoff and her daughter Beth.

The funeral will take place on Friday 11th December at 10:00 at Greenacres, Rainford. Due to Covid restrictions, people are asked to consider paying respects in Lloyd Road or Hamnett Road at circa 09:15 hours.
