Further to last nights abandoned game against Widnes FC, the club would like to issue the following statement:
Prior to kick off last night, the referee brought to the attention of club officials that one of the floodlight columns had failed to light. The referee and his assistants made it clear that all of the floodlights would need to be on in order for the game to go ahead as scheduled. At this point, it was agreed that kick off should be put back by 15 minutes while the club worked to resolve the issue.
Having allowed the floodlights enough time to cool enough to be restarted, the floodlight column once again failed to ignite and therefore, after consulting both team managers and club officials, the referee abandoned the game at 8pm.
Naturally, everyone is disappointed with this outcome, but the club respects the decision of the officials and will await any sanctions that the league or the FA choose to impose on the club. The club also wishes to apologise to everyone who attended last nights game. Fans are the lifeblood of the club and without you we cease to exist, you came expecting to watch a game of football, and were let down, we are sorry for this, and will now work hard to ensure that this does not happen again. The club would also like to apologise to the playing staff of both clubs, who put much time and effort into preparing for the game, only for it to be called off at the last minute.
The club would also like to put on record it’s thanks to the officials of Widnes FC who attended last nights game for their understanding and cooperation in the events that led to the game being called off.

Any fan who did not receive a cash refund will be able to apply for a credit note for the re-arranged fixture against Widnes, at a date and time to be confirmed by the league.
