Club Awarded Buildbase Grant

We are thrilled to announce that builders’ merchant Buildbase has awarded £10,000 worth of building materials to Prescot Cables FC.

Following the club’s application to the Buildbase Non-league Club Renovation programme, Prescot Cables FC, along with nine other clubs taking part in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Vase competitions, will be awarded building materials to renovate its facilities.

Judges from Buildbase and the FA chose Prescot Cables FC as one of the ten winners because of the great benefit the project would have on the club as well as its local community.

Prescot Cables FC will use the bursary to renovate its changing rooms to make it more accessible to female players and officials. The clubs Vice Chairman Gary Finney explained:

“We trialed an Under 18s female team this year with a view to looking at an open aged team in the summer. The girls have played at the stadium, but it has become obvious that the facilities are not suitable.  The same is also true of the referees’ changing facilities. This is from both a layout and comfort perspective.

“This bursary means a lot as it will enable us to renovate our changing rooms to enable us to make our female players and officials feel more welcome and comfortable. It will also help us to demonstrate that we are an inclusive club and serious about welcoming every single member of the community.”

The local Wigan Buildbase branch will be supporting the club with information, advice and supplying the building products required for the project.

Martin Bull is Buildbase Procurement Director and was part of the judging panel. He said: “We had a huge response to our renovation competition this year. Prescot Cables FC did a fantastic job of explaining how the bursary would be used and the effect of that on the wider community as well as on their ability to run as a business. We look forward to seeing how the project plays out over the coming months.”

Buildbase has been running a programme to transform the facilities of clubs taking part in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Vase competitions since it became the title sponsor of the FA Trophy and Vase in 2016. See how our other previous bursary winners have transformed their club
