Reserve Team Update: New Management for 2022-2023

Following the conclusion of the West Cheshire league season, the club can now confirm a number of changes to the make-up Reserve Team Management.

Jonny Sproson has taken the decision to step down from managerial duties. Jonny took on the role of manager In October 2021 after stepping back from First Team duties and the resignation of Lee Owens from the role. However, having recently been married and with a baby on the way, Jonny has taken the decision to step down now in order for the new management team to have the maximum amount of time to prepare ahead of the new season. Of his time at Cables, Jonny said: “I have enjoyed every minute of my time working with the first team and the reserves and I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone, the management, the players, everyone who works behind the scenes and of course the amazing fans for their support during my time here. The work that people put in behind the scenes to keep this club running on a day-to-day basis is amazing and without them, the club would not be what it is.

I also want to wish Kev Lynch and everyone in the first team set up all the best for next season, hopefully they can build on the good work of the second half of last season, this feels like the start of something good.

Also, the reserve team, the new management there are getting a good bunch of lads, I have nothing but god things to say about my time with them, I wish them all the best.

I am now looking forward spending more time with my family, and watching both teams as a fan.  I will continue to coach the junior teams and who knows, in the future, anything is possible. Up the Pesky Bulls”.

Jonny will now be succeeded by his assistant manager Ste Speed. Ste brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked at the club previously with the first team when Dave Powell was manager. Speed has also coached in Malta with Floriana, Mosta and in Wales with Bangor.  He will be assisted by Andy Roscoe, who come in having previously been at Leigh RMI and Atherton Laburnum. Speed and Roscoe have big plan for the reserve team and are looking to hit the ground running come the start of the 2022-2023 season. Speed commented on his appointment to the role “I am delighted to be back at Cables and I am looking forward to next season.  I want to work closely with Kevin and the first team, along with the club board of directors to benefit us both on and off the pitch as a club. We have several new signings planned and will be holding open trials over the summer to hopefully improve us. Thankfully many of last seasons squad are resigning so we cannot wait to get going.”

Ste and Andy will also be able to call upon the support of Peter Thomas, who is staying with the reserves to assist in the running f the side. Peter has been involved with the reserves for a number of years now and will be a key part of the Reserve Team structure going forward.

We are sure that everyone will join us in welcoming Ste back to Cables, as well as thanking Jonny for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.
