Success for Cables youth
While the festive period did not bring much joy for the first team the Christmas, there was some joy for the club further down the age groups.
Prescot Cables U9s finished 2020 in style, winning the Christmas Cup at Goals Liverpool South. While 2020 has been hard for everyone associated with the club, and the youth section has been no exception to that. Two lockdowns and the suspension of games, training ‘at a distance’ and the ‘no celebrating’ rule have all impacted the boys in one way or another. For them to finish such a turbulent year in such impressive style is surely to their credit.
The boys topped their group after a string of impressive performances & results which included a 1-1 draw against Warner Colts, a 2-1 victory over Mags JFC thanks to a late winner from winger Cole M. There then followed a 0-0 draw vs Mainliners thanks in the main to a string of brilliant saves from Goalkeeper Leighton G and the finally a 2-0 victory over Allerton Mersey thanks to 2 goals from the tournaments top scorer, Leighton M.
The little Bulls then progressed to the final, were they faced the impressive Mags Schalke, a side well regarded locally. The lads edged a close, hard fought games, thanks to a superb goal from Cole M, after a brilliant assist from man of the match Leighton M.
While Leighton M and Cole M stole the plaudits with their goals, Louie S also got star reviews for his performances in defence throughout the tournament.
Such performances show that the future is bright for these kids and the club that they represent.
Well done boys.
